PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

34

Personal development includes activities that improve awareness and identity, develop talents and potential, build human capital and facilitate employability, enhance quality of life and contribute to the realisation of dreams and aspirations.
The concept is not limited to self-help but includes formal and informal activities for developing others in roles such as teacher, guide, counsellor, manager, life coach or mentor.

When personal development takes place in the context of institutions, it refers to the methods, programmes, tools, techniques, and assessment systems that support human development at the individual level in organisations.

Phil 4:8
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy — meditate on these things.
The above Bible passage is encouraging us to put our minds on things that are good, which means that to have a lovely home; a good job; exotic vehicles; nice shoes; shirts, trousers and ties; as well as good health – in godliness is not worldliness.
Even though, a person must study and be sound in different areas of life – in order to have development in all ramifications: God must not be relegated if one’s success or development must be beneficial.
Jer 33:3
Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know. NKJV…
One needs to constantly call unto God for vivid direction, because distractions abound everywhere. This will also enable a person to avoid falling out of God’s grace.
Why should you develop your personality?
1.       So that the creation will see the manifestation of the glory of God in you (Roma 8:17-21).
2.       So that you could live comfortably with your family, if Jesus tarries (Pro 18:11).
3.       So that you could serve God in all capacities (Dan 11:32b).
What deter personal development?
1.       Fear.
2.       Doubt or unbelief.
3.       Intimidation.
4.       Sin or unrighteousness.
Dan 11:32: … God wants us for greatness, but we must also follow His commands for our lives to be among the best.
Finally, Heb 12:14
“Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord”. KJV
Some people use their success or achievements to create problems for others: that would not, in any way, bring glory to God.
Your success is to ensure that people around you have peace of mind: they should be happy to know you – with the God that you serve.
In fact, by doing this, you can win some of them to Christ and those that are fierce in anger, sins, lasciviousness, as well as, habits that are not in the interest of the country of his or residence, especially Nigeria.
