There
are countless number of churches in our world (now) that the stage is set for
competitiveness among members of the body of Christ.
An
incidence once occurred
– when a middle-aged man walked up to the entrance of a big church’s premises
and began to distribute flyers, inviting members of that church to his own
church: probably, for mid-week service or for the following Sunday’s service –
it was not clear.
The reaction was
unbearable yet justified. The
man sharing the flyer was ordered to evacuate the vicinity of the church.
This
is what most churches had turned to: reaping from where they had not sown (as
if it is in any way justified with the blessings that God promised His
Children, because if it is – then the body of Christ should stand divided, but
Jesus Christ had counselled that ‘a house divided against itself cannot stand’).
They enjoy hijacking the fruits of the labour of others, so that their (own)
numbers would increase.
The people that Jesus
came to save are not the righteous but the sinners; the perplexed; the outcast;
the fraudsters; the thieves and murderers; the homeless and others alike
"For the Son of
Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost." Luke 19:10, NASU
Suffice
it to say that, though, not everybody that goes to church is righteous,
born-again or saved: there is little or no efforts put into wooing somebody
(who attends church services regularly in a church) to another church – on the
ground that the former wants to increase attendance.
There
is untapped yieldingness among those tagged ‘street boys’, ‘the NFAs’ and
others in their categories – only if churches would try to think, strategise
and deploy useful techniques (guided by the scripture, the Holy Spirit, and relevance
to things that are not contradictory to Biblical principles within the culture
of the people).
The two types of
growth and the only one that impresses the heavens
Generally,
most christians know “Thus, I tell you,
there will be more joy in heaven over one [especially] wicked person who
repents (changes his mind, abhorring his errors and misdeeds, and determines to
enter upon a better course of life) than over ninety-nine righteous persons who
have no need of repentance”, Luke 15:7, AMP.
To
buttress our point clearly, we have decided to hint you on two types of growth
(existing in the church), and the only one among them that impresses heaven
(the most).
physical church
Qualitative growth; and quantitative growth.
Although,
the two of them are important to individuals and churches: qualitative growth
is what pleases God the most. Qualitative growth is just the blessings of God
on humanity (as found in Gen 1:26-31).
We should pursue
qualitative growth (at all times), and never lose grip of quantitative growth
too
Qualitative
growth is shred into several facts; the following could be placed under it:
·When
a sinner is saved, joins a church, and continues in Christ.
·When
members of the church keep growing spiritually.
·When
the converts become disciples and are bringing souls into the Kingdom too.
·When
the number of people that could teach the word of God (accurately) increases in
the church.
Quantitative
growth, on the other hand, includes:
·Structural
development or enlargement.
·When
a saved or born-again person joins a new church from a former church.
·Financial
growth of members of the church.
·Increase
of church members – occasioned by procreation.
On
these facts, we implore churches to place emphasis on qualitative growth by
putting efforts into programmes that will reach those sinners, and people that
have been segregated by the church due to the notion that they are too violent,
too unrealistic, and too dangerous.
Afterall,
they have their good sides too, but their good sides will not take them to
heaven – except that they accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.
These
people make themselves available in times of disaster (for rescue missions),
even though, they are paid some times – they have their usefulness.
Therefore,
if we are truly representatives of Christ on earth: we should make it a
burdenon ourselves – to bring all the
outcasts to Christ, through all legitimate and Biblical means.
“But all things are
from God, Who through Jesus Christ reconciled us to Himself [received us into
favor, brought us into harmony with Himself] and gave to us the ministry of
reconciliation [that by word and deed we might aim to bring others into harmony
with Him].
clashes
“It was God
[personally present] in Christ, reconciling and restoring the world to favor
with Himself, not counting up and holding against [men] their trespasses [but
cancelling them], and committing to us the message of reconciliation (of the restoration
to favor).” 2 Cor
5:18-19, AMP.
NB: If you will like to accept Jesus as
your Lord and Saviour, please say this prayer.
Father
I thank You that I have found your grace for salvation today. Enable me to know
you the more, and cause me to follow you till the end of my life. I confess
Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour, and may I find purpose in you.
Let
the Holy Spirit be my guide, and cause me to grow in the Holy Spirit –
everyday. In Jesus name I prayed, amen.
